Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum

October 7, 2021

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum is operated by the Loxahatchee River Historical Society, Inc., a non-profit organization that was established in 1972 to preserve the history of the river. The first Lighthouse Museum opened its doors in 1973. Since 1994, the Society has served as the Lighthouse Operations Manager for the United States Coast Guard under a long-term leasing agreement. As a management partner in the 120-acre Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area, which is a component of our country's beautiful National Conservation Lands, the Society is delighted to contribute to the well-being of the area's residents.

With its role as caretakers of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum and as a partner in the National Conservation Lands, the Loxahatchee River Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and educating the public about the region's dynamic legacy, ancient cultural history, and delicate ecological systems.

For the museum's historic 1860 Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Oil House, 1892 George Washington Tindall House, 1929 Lighthouse Keeper's Workshop, and 1940 World War II Naval Housing Building, the Society is responsible for the restoration and maintenance of the structures. They design, build, and maintain public parks and pathways, placing a strong focus on natural Florida landscaping in the process. Photographs, documents, maps, books, antiques, and furniture are preserved in the museum archives/collection for use in exhibitions and research.

Climbing trips are available at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, which was built in 1860 and has been in operation since. An exhibit titled "Five Thousand Years on the Loxahatchee" is on display at the waterfront Museum, which is housed in a restored World War II Naval housing structure. There are also outdoor exhibits such as the Oil House, Tindall Pioneer Homestead, Pennock Plantation Bell, Seminole Chickee, and Early Native American kiosks.
